States of Mind interior
Greenhouse by JP Flavien
The Greenhouse imagined by Jean-Pascal Flavien is made as a model, not a real house and was translated into a VR house. We furnished the three rooms upstairs, which we based on the idea of different states of mind. There are three in the house; the Trader, the Anarchist and the Idler. The furniture is the result of what they need, according to what they are, or have decided to be in life. We are interested in the concept of home furnishings as a representation of current political and social tensions. There is a perception that we are becoming polar, but inwardly we inhabit hundreds of perspectives that are incongruous or sometimes antithesis of each other. This can be seen in taste, but more in a more complicated way, in functions. What do these personalities each need to survive, how do we furnish an ideological state of mind?

The firewood is rerouted into expedient and primitive furniture before being burnt. This room is dedicated to continuously constructing and destroying, making is part of a daily routine. The elements are technical stainless steel appliances, this state of mind is unashamed of the contradiction (anarchist).

Materials change through time; they shrink, warp, bend. The stone megalith is an ode to a soggy chipboard shelf. Fossilised for playful and interwoven interactions. Negligence is a form of satisfaction and expression (idler).

Commodities and materials are almost theoretical, we don’t need to physically possess substance to feel its value. The pieces in this room embody this concept honestly. Surfaces are flat or hollow, or are abstractions of traditional methods of displaying value (trader).
