Fashioned from plate aluminium, spiky tabs are bent over to secure the joints of a typical panel desk. The claws protruding from the furniture are kind of a graphic representation of the angst of college and studying, the desperation of trying to come to terms with your creative voice versus institutional and economic pressure. The bamboo desktop has an Ikea coded, green washed passivity in contrast to the forged raw metal structure. Oval foot holes for resting one’s feet and integrated paper shredder for destroying ideas.

We enjoy mixing making processes into singular objects, it encapsulates a contradictions in production methods and material in the wider consumer landscape. In this piece we used scraps from our carved aluminium series and welded them before shaping and gluing infill sections from European walnut. A round-about way to weld wood together, but also implying that one can buy this standard material somewhere, wood stuffed inside aluminium box section for some reason after all you can buy aluminium printed with wood grain why not the other way around?

Infilled

Most wood furniture today is made from veneered chipboard, it conveys its value with its outer surface, skinning the wood pulp. These pieces work backwards from that layer, starting with veneer and applying fibreglass and resin as a structure, capturing the ripples in the veneer formed when drying. These panels are bolted together with segments of an aluminium bar bent into a spiral cut into pieces, a corporate (non) standard modular connector. Metal worm eating diet wood.
