Fashioned from plate aluminium, spiky tabs are bent over to secure the joints of a typical panel desk. The claws protruding from the furniture are kind of a graphic representation of the angst of college and studying, the desperation of trying to come to terms with your creative voice versus institutional and economic pressure. The bamboo desktop has an Ikea coded, green washed passivity in contrast to the forged raw metal structure. Oval foot holes for resting one’s feet and integrated paper shredder for destroying ideas.

In the Weeds

We enjoy mixing making processes into singular objects, it encapsulates a contradictions in production methods and material in the wider consumer landscape. In this piece we used scraps from our carved aluminium series and welded them before shaping and gluing infill sections from European walnut. A round-about way to weld wood together, but also implying that one can buy this standard material somewhere, wood stuffed inside aluminium box section for some reason after all you can buy aluminium printed with wood grain why not the other way around?

There are certain architectural and hardware typologies that seemed to have reached a dead end. The stainless steel handrail has become a ubiquitous silver worm in institutions and homes. It is an object that strives to have no aesthetic, practically and culturally hygienic. For us it represents the pervasiveness of a certain brand of corporate modernism, desperate to create excess value but not offend, a hollow snake silently constricting stairways and balconies indefinitely. 

 is a series of pieces using standard stainless steel tubes, rotary laser cut and bent by hand with complex interlocking joints (just learn to weld for fucks sake).
